Our Working Group brings together expertise in ethics, philosophy of science and technology, and science and technology studies across all five IDEA League partners. We strengthen the role of the humanities and social sciences in shaping responsible research, education, and innovation at technical universities.

Our Working Group has developed academic curricula, joint Doctoral Schools, and Summer Schools, including Empowering Imagination, Ethics of Science and Technology, and Ethics, Philosophy and Politics of AI. These programmes equip students and PhD candidates to think critically, use technology responsibly, and understand its implications for society.

Our research connects expertise in ethics, philosophy, and sociology with the physical and life sciences, engineering, architecture, and design. We develop interdisciplinary research projects, address emerging challenges in science and technology, and pursue joint funding to scale collaboration and impact.

We also engage directly with society through public lectures, screenings, and educational initiatives in schools and vulnerable communities. Through these activities, our Ethics and Society Working Group advances public understanding of science and technology and supports our universities in addressing the complex social and ethical challenges of our time.
